African American
Theater Arts Troupe
African American Theater Arts Troupe
The only one of its kind in the UC system, the African American Theatre Arts Troupe (AATAT) formed under the leadership and direction of Donald Williams in 1991. Since then, AATAT has been as a vehicle to create unity, higher visibility and greater understanding of the African American culture here at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the greater Santa Cruz community.
Each year in winter quarter, the department produces an AATAT production directed by Professor Don Williams.
AATAT auditions usually take place the quarter BEFORE the production, separate from General Auditions. Auditions are usually held in fall for the winter show.
Audition details are posted on the department’s Auditions page as they become available.
Students who are accepted via audition enroll in THEA 151A in winter quarter, the same quarter as the production.
THEA 151A can satisfy the Production Requirement and/or an upper division elective for the Theater Arts major, or an upper division studio requirement for the Theater Arts Minor.
