The Department of Performance, Play & Design offers many exceptional opportunities for students to showcase their work, gain hands-on experience in a variety of classes and productions, explore a variety of creative outlets!

AGPM students can showcase their work in the Open Studios and Games Showcase. For more information, click on the AGPM Open Studios and Games Showcase link. You may also contact AGPM Advising: agpmadvising@ucsc.edu.

All UCSC students interested in theater or dance will find opportunities for actors, dancers, choreographers, directors, playwrights and tech and design work. For more information on courses or opportunities offered by the department, please explore the links on this page. All UCSC undergraduates get a FREE TICKET to all PPD shows – just reserve online!

To reserve a ticket to a PPD show, undergrads:

  1. Go to “UCSC Art Events” for PPD events on Evenbrite.com (app or desktop).
  2. Select an event.
  3. Click the “Get tickets” button.
  4. Find the “UCSC Undergrad w/ ID” ticket option and select 1 ticket.
  5. Check out: Confirm your @ucsc.edu email address.
  6. Click the “Register” (or “Place Order”) button.
  7. Save the ticket as soon as you purchase it. (Or log back in to your Eventbrite account to view it later.) If you will not use the complimentary ticket, please cancel the order from within Eventbrite (paid tickets are not refundable).

Note:

  • A ticket/QR code is required for entry.
  • Valid UCSC ID is required at the door.
  • Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes before the advertised start time to find a seat.

Auditions for Theater Arts and Dance Productions

This Fall, the department will stage both upper and lower division productions. Any UCSC student is welcome to audition.The productions can fulfill different requirements for students pursuing a Theater Arts or Dance degrees.

African American Theater Arts Troupe

The only one of its kind in the UC system, the African American Theatre Arts Troupe (AATAT) stages a production each year in winter quarter in collaboration with the department.

Barnstorm is a student-run production company that was established in 2004 by the UCSC Theater Arts Department.

Dharma Grace Award

The Dharma-Grace Foundation Creative Writing Award Fund supports the production of an outstanding script written by an undergraduate junior or senior student in good academic standing.

Random with a Purpose is a student-directed, student-choreographed, student-performed, student-produced dance showcase staged annually by the department.

Production Opportunities for Theater Designers

Students interested in design and technology have many opportunities to develop skills in stage management, set design, costume design, lighting and other areas through taking classes and engaging in hands-on production work.

AGPM Open Studios and Games Showcase

At the end of every quarter students share their work at Open Studios. At the end of each year we celebrate the work of the UCSC student games community with the Games Showcase where artists, designers, and game-makers come together to share work, exchange ideas and inspire one another.
