Overview

We offer superb opportunities for production in the curriculum and excellent facilities to support these opportunities. Our program offers students more hands-on application of the craft than any other university.

Here you will find some of the production opportunities available to:
Actors, Designers, Directors, and Playwrights (though this is by no means an exact or exhaustive list).

Theater Arts

Auditions for Theater Arts and Dance Productions

This Fall, the department will stage both upper and lower division productions. Any UCSC student is welcome to audition.The productions can fulfill different requirements for students pursuing a Theater Arts or Dance degrees.

Barnstorm Theater Company

Barnstorm is a student-run production company that was established in 2004 by the UCSC Theater Arts Department.

Student Dance Showcase: Random with a Purpose

Random with a Purpose is a student-directed, student-choreographed, student-performed, student-produced dance showcase that celebrates 22 years as an artistic collective at UC Santa Cruz.

Dharma Grace Award

Dharma-Grace Foundation Creative Writing Award Fund – Supports the production of an outstanding script written by an undergraduate junior or senior student in good academic standing.

Production Opportunities for Designers

All designers and assistant designers are assigned to department shows via the Tech Grid, posted in the A-building hallway near the Green Room.

Chautauqua

The UCSC Chautauqua Festival made its debut in 1979 in the Barn Theater, modeled after a tradition of theater festivals that began at Lake Chautauqua, New York, more than a century ago.

Shakespeare To Go

Shakespeare to Go has been taking Shakespeare on the road since 1984, with a mission to connect with local youth and give back to the community.

AGPM Showcase/Open Studios

At the end of every year we celebrate the work of the UCSC games community of students with the Games Showcase. Each quarter students are able to share their work at Open Studios.
