Rainbow Theater

Rainbow Theater

Rainbow Theater was established at UC Santa Cruz in 1993 by the Cultural Arts and Diversity Resource Center (CADRC) in Stevenson College and became part of the Department of Performance, Play & Design in 2024. PPD and CADRC now both the only multicultural theater arts troupe in the entire UC system.

The company’s mission has been to create unity, higher visibility, and understanding of the various cultures within our communities. By giving students an opportunity to experience and create multicultural productions, Rainbow Theater serves to enhance the cultural climate of the UCSC Campus and its surrounding community, encouraging the celebration of diversity. The company’s mission is to foster the spirit of unity by breaking down cultural walls, providing an outlet for creative talents of various ethnic groups, and focus on the concerns of our communities.

Rainbow Theater productions are staged and hosted by the UCSC Cultural Arts and Diversity Resource Center in Stevenson Event Center, Stevenson College.

Students who are accepted via audition enroll in THEA 56R in spring quarter. This course can satisfy the Production Requirement and/or the lower division elective for the Theater Arts major (does not satisfy a minor requirement).
