Random: With a Purpose
Student Dance Showcase

Random: With a Purpose is the department’s annual student dance showcase. Collaboratively student-run and student-created, Random has been providing students with the opportunity to choreograph, dance in, direct and produce collective performances since 1991.

Open to all UCSC students for credit and experience, THEA 139, in which all participants enroll, also fulfills an upper division elective requirement for the Dance Minor or Theater Arts major, or an upper division studio requirement for the Theater Arts minor.

Students who are accepted via audition enroll in the THEA 139 Random: With a Purpose class in winter quarter, the same quarter as the production stagings.

Dancer and choreographer audition information is posted on the department’s Auditions page each fall quarter.

  • Auditions usually take place the quarter BEFORE the production (usually in fall for the winter performance), separate from General Auditions. Auditions.
